Title:Break The Funk
Label:Breakbeat Paradise
Attention all funky breakbeat heads! The Danish independent label AuditoryDesigns is proud to present the full-length debut Break the Funk by BadboE. We have listened to his groovy tracks over and over at the office and cannot seem to get enough. This crispy breakbeat bomb is meant to kick some flavour to the floor and we are sure that a lot of DJs will find BadboE's touch on the genre refreshing. Break the Funk consists of 15 original tracks with plenty of sampling, scratches, good beats and a praised remix of Dynamite made by All Good Funk Alliance (AGFA). BadboE gets his inspiration from late 60's and 70's funky productions like other breakbeat artists, and has refined it all in his mix with 80's vocals and hooks. On "Funky Medley" MC Sens One is guest performing and Linn Lavinsky from Phat Old Mamas (has worked with Marc Collin from Nouvelle Vagues) is spicing "Spread the Words" up, with her highly addictive and sensual voice. BadboE has already released numerous EPs among them Loose your Funky Self and most recently Dynamite also on AuditoryDesigns, both received good responses from funk DJs all over the world, both title tracks are included on Break the Funk. BadboE proves that you do not need to be born American to make some heavy funk-influenced catchy tunes. With the approach of bringing UK-style breaks in combination with soulful vocal samples and elements from the Danish hip-hop heritage, he has his own distinctive sound. At AuditoryDesigns we are not afraid to say that BadboE is one of the most interesting musicians at the funky part of the Scandinavian scene. So tune the ears in at planet Break the Funk, it's partytime!

With attention to detail, the communication designer plays and records all instruments himself, strictly according to the motto: keep it real! Title:The Brickbuilders EP
Label:My First Moth
For their 10th release Manchester based label My First Moth present a collaboration between two visionary artists from opposite sides of the Atlantic. New York born rapper BluRum 13 should need no introduction after lacing countless records from the last decade with his distinctive gravel-voiced flow, most notably the classic Ninja Tune album "Children of Possibility" which he recorded as one-third of One Self alongside DJ Vadim and Yarah Bravo. Producer Frameworks is a relative newcomer although still fiercely prolific, having notched up collaborations with Long Island legends QnC and UK rapper Bang On amongst others. With releases on First Word Records, Hero Records and Organik Recordings, Frameworks is quickly forging a reputation for a solid production technique, fusing old-school sensibilities with a touch of live instrumentation and a keen ear for a killer sample. This 12" features two tracks from the forthcoming Brickbuilders LP along with heavy remix treatments from four distinctly individual producers. First up, MFM's own Neko Neko drops an afro-funk tinged dancefloor bomb not dissimilar to his recent "Trouble in the Streets" 12" which sold out in a matter of weeks. Mixkings' Bunty Beats follows this with some next-level slowmo reversed sampling on a tripped-out atmospheric tip. Flip for some darker leftfield leanings from Danny Drive Thru, fresh from recent outings on Project Mooncircle, Fat City and Mind On Fire Records. And lastly Wah Wah 45s finest Part-Time Heroes wind things up nicely with an epic uptempo cinematic workout reminiscent of some of Bonobo's instrumental productions.

Artist:Souleance
Title:Como Estan Bitches?
Label:First World
Souleance are back! Following on from the success of their debut LP 'La Belle Vie' from earlier this year, the French duo have been busy in the studio producing La Beat Tape. 20 tracks deep, the release is aimed squarely at the DJs, with every beat guaranteed to shake the danceflloor. Souleance are producer Fulgeance (Musique Large / MPM) and DJ Soulist (What The Funk Paris?). Since releasing their debut EP (Le Monde) back in 2009, they have built a solid reputation for their idiosyncratic take on modern beats. With fans including Gilles Peterson, Danny Breaks and Mr Thing, their debut album was the culmination of 3 years of beat-making, touring, partying and drinking too much Pimms. Whilst other producers would rest on their laurels after releasing their debut, Souleance got straight back into the studio to produce La Beat Tape - their sole aim to create tracks that they would DJ with themselves. The result is 20 tracks of pure dancefloor fire. This 7" is our pick of the tracks that we think the DJs will love most. It takes in heavy Turkish breaks (Sauce Samorai), Hammond funk (L'insouleance), Just Blaze-style horn-heavy hip hop (Como Estan Bitches) and loose-limbed hip hop funk (BBQ & Pimms). This limited edition 7" containing features artwork by long-term collaborator Alice Dufay: it's sure to join their previous vinyl releases as a genuine collectors item.

Hoglodytes is the unlikely pairing of UK West Country producers Chubb Nice and Vinyl Peasant with New York rapper Emskee. How did they meet ? really don't ask me - I don't know and I can't imagine but what I do know is that this is some re-wind and start from the beginning righteous 90's hip hop vibes thrown down by some people who clearly love what they do.

Artist:DJ Shepdog
Title:Greatest Rewinds EP
Label:Off The Chain
After blowing up the reggae mash-up scene with his very first release back in 2006, DJ Shepdog has quickly established himself as a dancefloor connessieur mixing up hip hop, reggae, drum & bass and whatever else fits the bill of "Righteous Party Vibes". Now a firm favourite at festivals such as Glastonbury, Bestival, Big Chill, Outlook and many more, he can also regularly be found playing at clubs across the UK & Europe. Unfortunately many of Shep's early releases are now unavailable on vinyl as they were only every pressed in very limited quantities (some often fetch a handsome price on eBay & Discogs!) so we thought it was time to give them another lease of life on fat wax! "Bigger Than Jamrock" was Shepdog's first ever single and his calling card for future mash-ups that never fail to get a reaction on the dancefloor. Long since deleted it is now made available on vinyl for the first time in 5 years. "Ganja" is a remix that he was commissioned by Rob Da Bank for the Dub Pistols, which has never been issued on vinyl. Over on the flip is a dancehall inspired take on some classic party hip hop that should also get the hands in the air, only ever available on the "Cut Ups, Muck Ups & Bruck Ups" CD. The EP is finished off by something a little bit deeper, using his old mate Jstar's brilliant "One Life riddim" and spicing it up with some timeless NY MCs, again never available on vinyl before now!

Artist:Turntable Dubbers & Sebski
Title:I Like Your Style
Label:Nice Up!
After the huge success of their 'Rasta Be Good' and 'I Say Yeah' singles a couple of years back, which saw support from Annie Mac, Rob Da Bank, Norman Jay, as well as a stack of excellent remixes and mashups, Belgium's Turntable Dubbers come correct with a brand new single featuring legendary dancehall MC Top Cat on vocals. As always, it's a killer vocal hook singing the praises of the fine female form, which is complemented by a bumping 4/4 reggae flavoured track produced by Timaxx & Drezz alongside Polish producer Sebski. Remixes come from UK Funky don Warrior One, who is now pushing a new 'future jungle' sound which he showcases perfectly with this old school rave re-rub, complete with uplifting pianos, horns, sirens and just wait for that bass drop! Poland's Dreadsquad has taken the track back in time and supplied a classic ska remix with a very modern edge, replaying the whole riddim track with a full live band for that authentic sound and shuffle. Both are guaranteed to NICE UP! the party on any occasion!

Title:Young Adults EP
Label:Young Adults
Young Adults is a new housier-flavoured label started by the good folks behind Friends Of Friends. As part of a growingly endangered breed of all vinyl musicologists, L.A.'s Young Adults opt to let the records play in this digital age of instant gratification. The first installment in their commitment to pressed wax platters culls a collection of spectrum exploring body music from cohorts both near and far. Starting off the festivities is the golden child, Suzanne Kraft, whose feel-good stunner 'Jus U' exemplifies why Running Back was oh so eager to add his talents to their ever impressive roster. The sunsoaked strut that shimmers on this sampler track is just a teaser of things to come on Lil Suzie's forthcoming 12" EP for YA later in the summer. Next up is The Dead Rose Music Company with a shimmering study in repetition that only adds to their laureled cloud of mystique. A driving pulse and infectious vocal snippet assure that 'Soothe My Mind' soars in both headphone and floor-tested settings. On the flip, Urulu brings down the lights and cranks up the diva on a soul-studded banger that burrows its way into the deepest psyche caverns. 'Missing You' balances grit with a glossed-out sheen personified by loopy lipstick signatures on rusted bathroom mirrors. Rounding out the affair is a dank and dirty collab between up-and-comers Grown Folk and LOL Boys. 'Ghost Path' exists deep in the acidic bowels of the night and guides its followers through uncharted terrains without a flashlight. Make sure to buckle up.

On the flip, 'Go!' is a deft chop on 'The Look Of Love'

Title:Big Fun In Big Town
Label:Five Day Weekend
If you think the title of this DVD sounds like a struggling foreigner's attempt to describe his trip to New York during the formative years of a cultural revolution, you would be spot on. Filmed in New York City in 1986, 'Big Fun In The Big Town' chronicles the emerging hip hop culture through the lens of an upstart Dutch filmmaker named Bram Van Splunteren. Armed with nothing more than a camera crew and vague understanding of English, Van Splunteren's fearless excursion led him to the gritty landscapes of Harlem, South Bronx, and the Lower East Side during the peak years of the 1980s crack epidemic, a backdrop which proved to be the incubator for a breeding ground for hip hop pioneers. Bram happened to be in the right place at the right time. Putting his own personal safety at risk, he travelled to remote locations in neighbourhoods where no outsiders were normally allowed, capturing the essence of that time and place, while also managing to get interviews with and footage of rap heavyweights and emerging artists, many of whom now refered to as legends. The amazing scenes include a 17 year old LL Cool J greeting the crew from the doorstep of his grandmother's apartment (where he still lived), Chicago's Mystery Crew trying to snag a meeting with Russell Simmons outside the small offices of Def Jam on the same day Van Splunteren happened to be interviewing him, DMC freestyling to an unreleased beat on the cassette deck of his brand new and first Cadillac, and a still skinny Biz Markie beatboxing for Roxanne Shante on stage. Released for the first time ever in a physical format, 'Big Fun In The Big Town' is a must-see, must-own for any true rap historian, and a window into a time and place many of us can now only learn about through study. Travel back to where it all began and relive the inspiring struggle of hip hop music all over again. Running Time : 41:28. Region-Free DVD.

Artist:Kazahaya
Title:Sounds Of The City
Label:Breakin Bread
Breakin Bread drop the second single from Japanese producer Kazahaya who's been working with US MC's. Proper boom bap music on both sides, uptempo dancefloor craziness on one side, midtempo bumping gear on the flip.

Kazahaya hails from Tokyo, Japan and has been pushing his own brand of mash ups and mix CD's for the last few years. In 2007 he sent a demo to Breakin Bread and the resulting EP "Remember Hip Hop" became a bestselling hip hop release of that year. Because it was a mashup with loads of famous MC's on it Breakin Bread had to pull it from release! Since then Kaza has been getting mad props for his beats so he decided to work with some US MC's and this series of 7"s is the result.

A - Sounds of The City feat D-Stroy

One for the b-boys and b-girls. D-stroy rips it over an uptempo beat designed with the dancefloor in mind. The old school references abound but this is a fresh and forward thinking slice of proper hip hop on wax with a chorus to die for.

D-Stroy was born and raised in Bushwick, Brooklyn and he met Tony Touch at school forming a group called Touch and D-Stroy. After school he formed the legendary Arsonists and he went on to open up/host for X-zibit, Ludacris, The X-ecutioners, Papa Roach, L.L. Cool J, Busta Rhymes and Eminem to name a few. D-Stroy is currently featured on releases by Marco Polo, Q-Unique's, Pro-Sinnerz CD and The Snowgoons "Trojan Horse" LP. He is not a thug, he's an adult. He's not underground or commercial, he is HIP HOP. Perfect for working with a Japanese producer

B - Stay feat Paulie Rhyme

Kaza's beat on this one is a blessed out bit of summer goodness showing he can rock the filtered styles with the best of them. Paulie Rhyme waxes lyrically about his love of hip hop culture, something all true hip hop heads worldwide will recognise from this track forged somewhere between Southern Japan and West Coast USA.

Paulie Rhyme is a Bay Area based; Cleveland bred emcee, giving people music that touches mind, body, spirit, and soul. Putting in work in the indie circuit for a good portion of this decade, Rhyme has worn many hats in the industry before finding his calling in front of the mic.
Artist:Homeboy Sandman
Title:Subject Matter
Label:Stones Throw
Homeboy Sandman's debut on Stones Throw is a six-track EP, as the artist describes it, "with songs dealing with content no one has ever rapped about before in the history of rap music. Unfortunately not a difficult thing to do." A past making songs about dancing the mambo and the foolishness of gunplay in rap suggest that this is no idle boast.

Label:Record Breakin Music
Record Breakin' Music is proud to team up with OM Records and FTC Skateboards for the release of J-Boogie's latest single Undercover (ft. Chrys Anthony). Like a lost Cee-Lo Green jam session, Undercover rides a turbid groove, laden with percussion and underscored by a driving bassline. A dubbed-out horn section accents Chrys Anthony's soulful croon in this late-night heater. J-Boogie has duly delivered one for the dancefloor as well as the drive home. On the B side is wonderful remix from Dj Nu-Mark of Jurrasic 5 that takes the original to another level.

Title:The Claydon Break / Cosmic Exotica
Label:Breakin Bread
More drums! Beats, breaks, rolls, all live, no loops. Breakin Bread continue their specialist Drums Series of 7"s with Mark Claydon joining Virgil Howe for 2 killer beat heavy tracks. Breaks for the future!

Breakin Bread is rooted in hip hop and all things related to hip hop so tracks with heavy drums and breakbeats are staples of the output of the label and the turntables of the clubs. The Drums Series features drummers that the Breakin Bread Crew have got to know since they launched their club night thirteen years ago.

The Claydon Break: This time round the guys take it back to more of an original 70s funk band sound. Mark Claydon underpins the track with a steady uptempo breaqk. Virgil and Nick Hirsch from The Killer Meters take the track into driving heavy deep funk rock territory. A couple of clean breaks are embellished with big build ups and multi instrumental frenzy. We were all in the studio for this one and its one of the most intense studio sessions we've ever done.

Cosmic Exotica: This is Virgil's homage to rare as hens teeth Asian Psych Disco breaks. He can imagine Finders Keepers or Now Again records re-issuing this strange but break heavy offering. Think of a Chinese Big Band dropping this in the early 70's for some Grind-House biker movie drug scene that gets a bit lary as a massive fight breaks out! Uptempo breaks for the dancefloor!
Artist:Sonny Rhodes / The Right Kind
Title:You Better Stop / My Money Is Funny
Label:Fryers
Is it Funk? Soul? Mod? RnB? Yes and no and yes again, it's a bit of everything! Sonny Rhodes' 'You Better Stop' is an alround post-deepfunk/soul crossover club dancer, good sounding for everyone. First spun on the European cross-genre funk n' soul scenes by UK DJs like Ian Wright and Fryer, now getting picked up on the UK Northern scene which is now leaving the old stompers behind and is embracing the bouncing rhythms of funk. Fryer managed to get to the tapes which amazingly were still intact, so we went to work and transferred them at half-speed for a truly explosive sound!

On the flip we have another very cool instrumental track from the same period. Labelmates "The Right Kind" whip up a funky R&B stormer with a slight moddy edge which never goes amiss for the '60s R&B and New Breed lovers. Not to be overlooked!

Title:Turntables On The Hudson - Reflecting Cielo
Label:Wonderwheel
Another limited 12" sampler from the Turntables On The Hudson crew, leading up to the brand new compilation CD celebrating their monthly Friday residency at NYC's Cielo club. This party platter features more of the sounds and artists that have been dropped by Nickodemus and friends on the big Funktion One sound-system over the last eight years! Things kick off with Mr.Scruff's infamous 'Pickled Spider', a ripping dubstepper of track with huge wobbly bass and delayed female vocals urging all dancers to the floor. Next up is 'Dub For Mali' by San Fran's own Pleasuremaker (of the Afrolicious crew), featuring Yacouba Diarra on vocals and Thievery Corporation's Rob Garza weighing in on some extra production. To the flip, SUMO's 'Zwakalani' could be one of the party's most heavily spun tunes since it was released five years ago, with it's booming drums, guitar licks, and uplifting vocals. Clocking in last on the 12" is 'Lovesick' by T.O.T.H. family-friend Mariella, remixed into a deep boogie-house vibe with heavy bass for the clubs by Mark De-Clive Lowe.
Artist:Randa & The Soul Kingdom
Title:The Things (Mooqee & Beatvandals Mixes)
Label:Unknown
Randa and The Soul Kingdom released 'The Things' swinging funky disco 12 (FSR092) on Freestyle Records early June 2011, a pretty straight ahead affair produced and guitar scratched by one of the busiest men in the music bizznizz: Lance Ferguson, the man responsible for Freestyle soul-jazz organ trio Cookin On 3 Burners, as well as The Bamboos & Lanu projects on Tru Thoughts Recordings. For this booty style remix they have taken Randa's outstanding vocal and completely reworked the track into an electro funk bomb. Toughening things up but losing non of the funk the mixes aim straight for the dancefloor.
Artist:Tombee
Title:Strike Up The Band
Label:Jack To Phono
Tombee is back with his 4th release on Jack to Phono with Strike Up The Band. Hailing from Newcastle (home of the Brown) DJ, producer and film-maker Tombee often describes his sound as Folk-Hop. The definition of Folk music, if you look it up, is music handed down from generation to generation, which when considering the beats interwoven and flipped here, kinda makes sense...

This time Tombee teams up with Mr Konfuze & Lunatic, Tom Eno and Winter North Atlantic to create one eclectic download and remix package! From a dancefloor friendly party vibe to the ambiance of Winter North Atlantic.
Artist:Omegaman
Title:Skankin' Riddim
Label:Super Hi-Fi
Hailing from Sydney, Australia: DJ, producer and beat maker Omegaman has laid down an infectious groove with his new ass wigglin? track "Skankin' Riddim". Proudly presented by Super Hi-Fi Recordings, it's a cheeky salute to old skool Ska with a straight up breakbeat, dubby bassline, majestic horns courtesy of Scotty Sax, and vocal samples from reggae legend Horseman. The release also features an all-star lineup of remix artists.

The vinyl release will include Omegaman, Thomas Blondet, Stickybuds, and Busta. The digital release adds two more remixes to the stellar roster courtesy of All Good Funk Alliance and Fretless. Styles range from straight up ska with big beats, lounge core head-nodders, to breakbeat stompers with some seriously womping bass action - this release covers all bases with a nice variation of genres.
Artist:Nick Thayer
Title:Rhythm Method EP
Label:Bombstrikes Records
Following hot on the heels of the outstanding Pimpsoul ep, Bombstrikes once again maintain their scene leading formula. This time out it's the turn of Nick Thayer to deliver the dancefloor goodies. In a style very much his own, Nick raises the bar even higher with this incredibly strong three-track ep.

There is no messing about on this EP "Do You Want more" on the A side hits hard. With vocal hooks and guitars kicking the track off in fine style before the almighty lead synth hits with guaranteed head nodding approval. For our money this is an absolute monster. Over on the flip, first up is "Rhythm Method" which brings Nick's trademark swing and movement to the proceedings. Vocals play perfectly with the synth and horn riffs to ensure plenty of dancefloor ass shaking will follow. Rounding things off nicely is the bass heavy groover "Ladies Love Cool Jams" which is so devastatingly executed it is bound to hit the right spots.
Artist:Omas & Aver
Title:Out Of Time
Label:My First Moth
Following on from a few well received 7"s last year Omas hooks up with long time collaborator Aver (aka Joey Average) for his new single. Aver himself is well at home behind the boards as beatmaker for Manc hip-hop crew The Natural Curriculum who are known for regularly tearing up stages across the North-West with their excellent live shows.

Here they turn their hands to an uptempo funk rock workout where funky guitar licks collide with heavy drums and spoken word cuts. With its expertly chopped drum breaks and fills the track comes across like a dusty library music faceoff between The Meters, Rare Earth and Rjd2!

On the flip My First Moth regular DJ Mischief is on remix duties, reworking a few choice elements of the original into a tasty Latin hip-hop groover. Syncopated double bass and Latin percussion builds up towards big anthemic horn stabs which set the track off into proper club banger territory!
Artist:Guitar Ray
Title:Funky Pete Parts 1 & 2
Label:Tramp Recods
Guitar Ray, whose actual name was Raymond Washington, recorded just over half a dozen 45RPM singles in New Orleans from the late 1950s to 1968. Four of those had been released on Hot Line Records out of New Orleans, which was a subsidiary of Nola Records. Wardell Quezergue, one of the principals of the companies, did most of the production and arranging for them - as shown on the label: "Arr by Wardell."

Released in around 1967, the singer's own Funky Pete appeared on the third of Washington's four singles for Hot Line. It was a straight-ahead dancer that emphasized the rhythmic elements of the song, all locked into a tight, spring-loaded, high energy groove, probably propelled by el supremo beat-man, Smokey Johnson. The drum and vocal intro that Quezergue set up pulls you right into the action; then the horns come in and push the groove to maximum heights.

As with all re-issues on Tramp it comes with excellent sound quality and original label artwork too. Because Funky Pete Pt.1 also appears on the Feeling Nice compilation (TRCD/LP-9012) they did a strictly limited press run of 111 hand-numbered copies on the Hot Line issue. Be Quick!
Artist:Kidboy
Title:Disparate EP
Label:Jazz&Milk
Kidboy is an upcoming producer and versatile musician based in Granada who is always searching for a balance between organic and electronic sounds. On his debut EP he teams up with vocalists such as Ohmega Watts, BluRum13 and Julio Cesar Rodriguez and a bunch of excellent jazz musicians. Bored by too many monotonous releases out there Kidboy wanted to present a diverse EP ? with percussive Broken Beats, heavy basslines sounds and Latin instrumentation on the one hand and very mellow and jazzy Hip Hop tracks on the other!

The EP starts off with Yo Me Voy De Aqui a progressive dj-tune filled with organic latin samples and an enormous sub bassline ? one truly for the dancefloor! Also on the latin tip, Chang?? De Manteca features cuban singer Julio Cesar Rodriguez on vocals and percussion, Cesar's Salad pianist Jo Junghanss on keys and Andrew Linch on sax on top of an energetic Broken Beat.

Eventually Kidboy takes you back into the 90's ? the golden era of Hip Hop ? with organic beats, jazz driven instrumentation and sophisticated rapping. The Culture features Ohmega Watts, a virtuoso rapper from the States who has released on Ubiquity and already worked with well-known acts such as Quantic, The Bamboos or Breakestra. A Moment To Think presents BluRum13, known for his project One Self with DJ Vadim and Yarah Bravo, who came to Granada to collaborate with Kidboy.
Artist:Space Ranger
Title:Plastic Romance
Label:Love Monk
Dancing with tears in your eyes on the remixes of "Plastic Romance", one of the ace tracks off of "What About The Magnetic Fields?", Space Ranger's debut album on Lovemonk.

The German outfit returns with it fourth single on Lovemonk, the wonderful "Plastic Romance" featuring the chilly vocals of Captn K, who can also be heard on previous single "Nightmoves". Bonar Bradberry throws some beef on the barbie and turns the slo-mo disco original into a ultra-funky dancefloor stormer, while the fabulous Rimshooters, a.k.a. Massimiliano Pagliara and Rotciv, speed it up and take it back to the eighties.

Motorcity Drum Ensemble shift into fifth gear as well and undress the tune while they're at it, leaving Captn K sounding even chillier. Groove Attack & Innervisions hero Marcus Worgull liked the MCDE remix so much, he decided to do his own edit of it. A fabulous package if ever there was one.

Title:All Your Bass Are Belong To Us
Label:Super Bro
Taking a turn to the left, Mssrs P&S head out of town to where beats are best, albeit backwards. Mining Afrocentric and South American beat traditions, combining them with contemporary studio trickery and dub stylings, our heroes end up not quite where they expected, which of course is normal. The starting point was the bassheavy nusounds coming from Brazil, Argentina, and Africa, with the endpoint expected to be some new and interesting rhythmic material. As usual, the process begins with some livetracking, but the result has been chopped and flipped so many times, and had a kitchensink'sworth of sounds, and chants, whistles, sirens, and other material appropriated from the World Wide Web, that no one is too sure what came from where, and how they got where they are. The A side starts with a remix by DRM, who typically selects a few elements from the original mix, and weaves an insistant rhythmic slice of dancefloor delicacy. He adds some extra guitar, and then as if from nowhere, some techno-y synth that should sound out of place, but doesn't. That is paired with a second remix, from Chancha via Circuito, who radically slows down the original, but uses most of the basic elements, plus a few tricks of his own. Auditory cough syrup indeed. The B contains three original tracks which are very different in sound and approach. 'Ayayaya' has a long mournful intro which suddenly drops into a mutant funk bass with raucous chant provided by some Pacific Islanders, toss some drunken horn choruses on top, and there you have it. 'Last Drunk At The Party? is built on a bent Afrofunk bass, with African chanting and whistles, air horn melodies, more whistles, and then yet more whistles. 'Bahia Shuffle' takes some tuff Batacuda beats, adds oodles of dubbed out keys, and floats spoken word intros from Middle Eastern 78rpm recordings for extra flavour.
Artist:Toy Selectah
Title:Mex Machine
Label:Mad Decent
Toy Selectah is a certified legend in the world of Latin music. He was one of the founders of the massively influential hip hop en Espanol group Control Machete out of Monterrey, Mexico. These guys went nine-times platinum in South America. He then became a key A&R at the Universal label Machete Music and helped usher reggaeton's global takeover in the mid 2000s. For the past couple of years he's been a touring DJ, killing parties with his distinct vision of dance music, and doing big work as a producer and remixer (with Calle 13, Buraka Som Sistema, Vampire Weekend, Morrisey, Manu Chao and way more). Although he's become primarily known for cumbia, Toy's sound references his whole history and a wide swath of global bass movement. This mixup makes for about four genres that only exist in Toy's head, and each track on the 'Mex Machine' EP gives us a new angle on that world, with five original tracks, each showcasing a different side of the Toy Selectah sound. 'Sonidero Compay' is a big meeting of the minds, featuring the reggaeton king DJ Blass over a proper cumbia beat from Toy. The revs go all the way up to 150bpm territory with 'La Ravertona'. Toy teams up with Mad Decent labelmate Mumdance for 'Anni Riddim', a good example of Toy's personal hybrid land. 'Mex Machine' is a milestone release for one of the most exciting and influential artists coming out of Mexico today.

Title:The Midnite Eez
Label:All City Records
A long long time ago in a galaxy far away, that is to say pre-internet, 1995 or 1996 to be not very exact, All City co-founder Splyce found himself on one of his regular record buying sojourns to New York. Approached outside the Fat Beats store by two guys who had heard he was a DJ from out of town and were eager to spread word of their production work outside their homeland, he was given a mix tape demo of their beats. Named The Midnight Eez, from the Bronx, they were one of thousands of budding production units on Manhattan Island. The tape came only with a name and pager number, which hardly surprisingly now goes unanswered in 2011, but after relocating that same tape in a recent house move, in the spirit of musical altruism All City have decided to give it the proper vinyl release it deserves. Hopefully this release will see The Midnite Eez them get some belated but deserved shine. Tracklisting is precisely as per the original cassette, with 30 minutes of hip hop music over the two sides. Artist:Ill Boogs
Title:The Stone Garden
Label:Breakin Bread
The second single from Ill Boogs debut album. Two of the few tracks that will be available on vinyl. Made by a b-boy for b-boys and funk fans worldwide!

Side A - The Stone Garden. This could be from the "Taking Of Pelham" film. Classic cinematic sounds, underpinned with that solid "Boogs Breakbeat". This time round the breaks snaps hard, the band drop some wah wah guitar and the horns give the cinematic feel. It's a short track like many of the classic breakbeat tracks from back in the day. Proper DJ's will need two copies of this and the skills to spin back 7"s!

Side B - Iron Horse. The guitar and horns are strong on this track too, but it's the rolling beat that really makes the dancers hit the floor. It's like Boogs has employed the Incredible Bongo Band as session musicians and put them together with the JB's and some unknown prog rockers. A longer track this one so the dancers can really get into the groove!

This is a culmination of years digging for break beats, listening and dancing to mix tapes from break djs all over the world. It's an eclectic mix of popular and obscure influences from James Brown to movie soundtracks and prog rock.

But these are not drum loops your hearing..lazy producers better go back to the drawing board, all of this album is played live! The tracks are all instrumental funk and breaks tracks. All tempos and rhythms are covered by Boogs and his band. Being made by a b-boy the albums has a heavy leaning towards rhythm without being the same tired old break beats looped over and over. The only thing the tracks have in common is 'the break,' being a Bboy Boogs doesn't see the point in making a tune without one.
Artist:Virgil Howe & Shawn Lee
Title:Electronic Brain Break
Label:Breakin Bread
More drums! Beats, breaks, rolls, all live, no loops. Breakin Bread continue their specialist Drums Series of 7"s with Shawn Lee joining Virgil Howe for 2 killer beat heavy tracks. All live, no loops, breaks for the future!

Side A - Electronic Brain Break. Breakbeat? New Wave? Psych? Electronic Brain Break came out of Virgil jamming on a Teisco synthesizer with Shawn Lee on kit and percussion.Working themselves up into a freaky, sweat fueled funk-out. Breaks and percussion galore, crazy bassline and all sorts of madness going on! We can't think of any other way to describe it!

Side B - Go Go Gadget Break. This is a homage to the lost Go Go breaks of the early 80s. When live drums still lived side by side the new synth technology that was emerging. Virgil bangs the drums with Shawn providing the Roto-Tom fills and skanky guitar. Go go go!
Artist:Dusty
Title:Keep It Raw Remix
Label:Jazz&Milk
Dusty's Keep It Raw EP gets an amazing remix treatment by some of the good names out there. We believe that Solo Moderna took the title seriously when doing his remix for Loco Para La Pista - this is something crazy for the dancefloor and it absolutely works! Medicine man Romanowski from San Francisco collected special herbs on Voodoo Island to brew his great remix of the track called Voodoo. Watch TV, the man from Spain turns the the jazz driven Tap Tap into a smashing and progressive piece that is just waiting to be played out loud! Last but not least the guys from Vono Box are keeping it raw, adding the right dose of phat beats and effects to the title track. Once again, this record bridges the gap between melodic jazz grooves and clubby productions!
Artist:Art Bleek
Title:Supplied Artwork Ep
Label:Loungin Recordings
Starting the E.P. is a floor filling remix of Clap Your Hands by our own Trevor Loveys. The original has been out for a few months in the blogosphere and has been picking up some heavy props. For any of you who have missed it, where Art shows off his true talent of the master of the musical groove with a rolling bass and a choppup vocal lick to keep the party rocking. Flip over to side B and you would be excused if you thought someone had swapped the record out for a disco classic. With vox by Noelle Scaggs and a harmony that Nile Rodgers would be proud of Arthur creates a boogie classic that is very much flavour of the moment. Following on is an exclusive remix of The Hunt Dance featuring the unmistakable voice of Ursula Rucker. The original on Art Supplies has had such amazing reactions that we all thought it would be hard to better it, but again Arthur has done it delivering a groover for the heads. Finally is Right On featuring L.A's finest Charlie Sputnik. Art delivers a more Techy grove to this classic which is a sound he is becoming more recognised for which contrasts so will with Charlie's trademark smooth vocals.

Artist:Savages & Unifairfly
Title:Blow Up Your Box / Mean Streets
Label:Hero Records
Hero Records return after their last offering from Hero No.7 and Mash & Munkee, this time slowing the pace for a downtempo funky hip hop double-sider from Savages & Unifairfly.

Savages, aka Nandor Kurtossy from Hungary, is a 28 year old producer who released his debut album "Five Finger Discount" on Chameleon Records in late 2008 to great response from all over the globe. Unifairfly, aka David Hanke, is a 32 year old producer from Germany who started out with a local radio show and then begun to produce hip hop-flavoured funk tunes as one half of Mash & Munkee and dancefloor jazz tracks under his other solo moniker Renegades of Jazz on Smoove's Wass Records.

After getting in touch for a remix, Nandor and David discovered similar tastes for producing funk, soul and jazz influenced hip hop tunes and a shared love for the sound of labels like Puma Strut, 7 Hills and Breakin' Bread which in turn lead to the duo collaborating on the pair of deep down and dirty funk tracks you'll find on this release.

The a-side "Blow Up Your Box" features funky bass and drums breaks and catchy hip hop vocal samples and is dedicated to all B-Boys and B-Girls. The flipside track "Mean Streets" is a funk-filled cinematic, gangster hip hop tune inspired by the film of the same name. Two tracks of funk for your feet, that will appeal to lovers of funk, hip hop and breaks who like to get down and dirty.
Artist:DJ Format
Title:Mr DJ
Label:Project Blue Book
At last, DJ Format returns with exactly the type of Hip Hop we've all been missing! MR DJ sees Sureshot La Rock playfully bragging about his DJ partner's skills, constantly setting Format up to supply the punchline with a scratched vocal sample. Sureshot doesn't over-complicate the rhymes, instead keeping it simple & funky to fit Format's timeless sound perfectly as they weave effortlessly back & forth.

Format, as ever the perfectionist was not happy just to make a straight instrumental version of MR DJ and instead created the B-BOY VERSION that sees him cutting & scratching the many different breaks, beats & samples that were too numerous to all fit into the vocal version.

DOPE PUSHER has a more raw sound to it with Sureshot La Rock getting technical with some 'dope dealing' metaphors and several nods back to Big Daddy Kane, an obvious inspiration for the song.

Sureshot's performance leaves you wondering how the hell you've never heard of him until now!

Apparently, HERE COMES THE DOPE PUSHER originally began it's life as the intended backing track for Sureshot to deliver his 'Dope Pusher' lyrics but with so many intricate samples to fit into the track,Format opted to instead develop it into this instrumental Hip Hop-meets-Psych cut 'n' paste monster that cleverly samples '60s Rock records, classic Hip Hop records and includes an unhinged spoken word section warning of the evil 'Dope Pusher'.
