Description of Frameworks & BluRum 13 The Brickbuilders EP

For their 10th release Manchester based label My First Moth present a collaboration between two visionary artists from opposite sides of the Atlantic. New York born rapper BluRum 13 should need no introduction after lacing countless records from the last decade with his distinctive gravel-voiced flow, most notably the classic Ninja Tune album "Children of Possibility" which he recorded as one-third of One Self alongside DJ Vadim and Yarah Bravo. Producer Frameworks is a relative newcomer although still fiercely prolific, having notched up collaborations with Long Island legends QnC and UK rapper Bang On amongst others. With releases on First Word Records, Hero Records and Organik Recordings, Frameworks is quickly forging a reputation for a solid production technique, fusing old-school sensibilities with a touch of live instrumentation and a keen ear for a killer sample. This 12" features two tracks from the forthcoming Brickbuilders LP along with heavy remix treatments from four distinctly individual producers. First up, MFM's own Neko Neko drops an afro-funk tinged dancefloor bomb not dissimilar to his recent "Trouble in the Streets" 12" which sold out in a matter of weeks. Mixkings' Bunty Beats follows this with some next-level slowmo reversed sampling on a tripped-out atmospheric tip. Flip for some darker leftfield leanings from Danny Drive Thru, fresh from recent outings on Project Mooncircle, Fat City and Mind On Fire Records. And lastly Wah Wah 45s finest Part-Time Heroes wind things up nicely with an epic uptempo cinematic workout reminiscent of some of Bonobo's instrumental productions.

Artist:Omas & Aver
Title:Out Of Time
Label:My First Moth
Following on from a few well received 7"s last year Omas hooks up with long time collaborator Aver (aka Joey Average) for his new single. Aver himself is well at home behind the boards as beatmaker for Manc hip-hop crew The Natural Curriculum who are known for regularly tearing up stages across the North-West with their excellent live shows.

Here they turn their hands to an uptempo funk rock workout where funky guitar licks collide with heavy drums and spoken word cuts. With its expertly chopped drum breaks and fills the track comes across like a dusty library music faceoff between The Meters, Rare Earth and Rjd2!

On the flip My First Moth regular DJ Mischief is on remix duties, reworking a few choice elements of the original into a tasty Latin hip-hop groover. Syncopated double bass and Latin percussion builds up towards big anthemic horn stabs which set the track off into proper club banger territory!
Title:What You're Looking For / I'm So Dizzy
Label:My First Moth
Mancunian beat digger Omas returns for another outing on wax with some funky gems aimed squarely at the dancefloor. "What You're Looking For" is a super-soulful summertime joint featuring big horn and string arrangements with weighty drums and catchy vocal hooks that'll keep going round your head for days! Over on the flip is more cut & paste business with "I'm So Dizzy", where Omas moves more into JB's style deep funk territory. Cue big heavy drum breaks, funky guitars and screaming saxophone licks!

Title:Flaming Chestrug / 1986
Label:My First Moth
Boxdub's Friend, DJ Mischief follows up last years white label remix 7" with some killer instrumental cuts which have already been getting some heavy rotation on CDR from the likes of Jon Kennedy and Gilles Peterson amongst others.

A side "Flaming Chestrug" is a straight up b-boy funk bomb, pairing some monster drum breaks with wild flutes and horn stabs for some proper dancefloor action! Things get even funkier when the track breaks down to just bass and drums for the extended breakdown, then the bongos drop and the s**t really goes off! On the flipside is "1986", a more downtempo cut which starts with some Axelrod-esque drums and bass before evolving into lush cinematic soundscapes with horns, strings and a few classic hip hop samples thrown in for good measure!
Artist:Krs-Jon / DJ Mischief
Title:Tik Tok / Interskala
Label:My First Moth
My First Moth are back with veteran producer KRS-Jon aka Jon Kennedy (of Tru-Thoughts / Grand Central / Organik Recordings) taking on label main-man DJ Mischief for a double header of hip-hop reworks...

Jon has been a fan of My First Moth Records since day one, and on the strength of their first few 7s approached the label about doing a release. Understandably, MFM jumped at the chance, and the result is his sick refix of the Lords of the Underground anthem "Tic-Toc", backed with DJ Mischiefs take on The Beastie Boys "Intergalactic".

Jons production is as tight as ever, with upright bass and neck-snapping drums creating a mid-tempo dancefloor heater for the New Jersey MCs to shine over. On the flip Mischief ups the tempo with tough drums and guiro scrapes gradually building up to a big heavy drop sure to rock the sh*t out of any party!

Title:Itzsoweezee / Satisfied?
Label:My First Moth
Manchester based beat-maker DJ Mischief has been up to no good, jacking a few well-known hip hop acapellas to rework for this essential release on new label MyFirstMoth Records. First up, he ditches the laid-back beats of De La Soul's '96 classic 'Itzsoweezee (Hot)' for some funky breaks and syncopated Hammond organ pops, guaranteed to get those feet shuffling on the dancefloor! Then over on the flip J-Live gets a few things off his chest over some solid jazzy head-nodding beats, with the poignant lyrics and haunting backing vocals of 'Satisfied'' perfectly matching Mischief's solid production. Limited to 500 copies worldwide.
