The 8th Release on Ground Level, and the last for 2008, comes from Australia's Shopliftas with their Nasty in The Shade EP. Nasty In The Shade kicks off the release, a solid breaker with a catchy hook and solid sub bass, all brought together by huge drums. With a mixdown by none other than Bass Kleph. there's no wonder this track goes off on a big system! On the flip, In Effect takes a more electro house feel, with a reverse string line and stabs leading into a fat wobbler of a bassline, making the package a perfect all rounder for fans of both breaks and house.
With a background playing live drums for bands coupled with studio sessions with producers like Youth (Killing Joke), JDS, Adam F, & Dan Carey (Kylie)....Stylus Rex is hooked on beat construction & production.
On Serious Wobble the influences are broad ranging with a nod to filthy Electro like Alter Ego, a dash of Boards of Canada's other-worldly soundscapes & a fat dollop of Bassline Breaks mayhem! On the flip Maelstrom beefs up the beats a little, drops in a twisted bassline and driving drums licks, and moves the track into late night dancefloor fodder, perfectly complimenting the original.
Following on from great releases from Stylus Rex and Darft Phunk & Andy McAllister, we're proud to present the third release on Ground Level, Groovy Moves by Break the Box featuring Ira.
Break the Box has been building his profile steadily over the last year with releases on Dead Famous and Basstard Records, from his home in Sicily in Italy. Groovy Moves combines a funky bassline, with a catchy MIA style vocal complimented by crazy breakdowns and FX reminiscent of nu-rave artists!
On the flip, to complete this all Italian release, Plaza De Funk turns in his remix. On this mix he strips the track down, keeping the essential elements, and turns it into a fat funk-driven builder!
Following his Ground Level debut with Groovy Moves (which has just gone for repress!), Luigi Barone returns with the House / Breaks hybrid monster which is Ghost Licker.
The original is a funky electro number, with huge bass and the 'ghost' lick weaving throughout to create a monster. On the remix front Groove Allegiance turn it into a glitchy floor filler, already being supported by Malente.
"Surge" is Stylus Rex's third release for Ground Level. It's a moody techy house track, with breakbeat stylings, and a massively catchy hookline, which has already been destroying the floors since it's inception. On the flip Nine Lives The Cat turns this track into a peaktime dancefloor anthem with a HUGE bassline and old school breakdown, yet keeping the funk throughout like only he can!
